Claiming a name on one platform and discovering it is taken everywhere else is the single most common naming failure. Run this checklist in one sitting, before you announce anything.
Check the social platforms first
Open each profile URL directly in a private window. A not-found page means the handle is free at that moment. Do all of them within the same hour — availability moves fast on short names.

Then check the domain
Even if you have no website today, a matching domain protects the name. Check your primary TLD and one backup. If the exact match is gone, a short functional suffix keeps the brand intact better than a hyphen.
Search for existing use
Run the name through a search engine in quotes. You are looking for an established business, a trademark, or an unfortunate meaning in another language. Five minutes here prevents an expensive rebrand later.
Claim everything at once
Register the handle on every platform on your list the same day, including ones you do not plan to use. Dormant claimed accounts are free and they keep your options open permanently.
Document it
Keep a single note listing every platform, the exact handle and the email used. When you expand later, or hand work to a collaborator, that note saves hours.
